Islamic Medicine For Viruses
Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
Islamic Medicine for viruses and flu symptoms: In recent times on a regular basis the world seems to be effected by various viruses, in the past SARS, MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome), Swine Flu, Zika Virus, Ebola and currently Coronavirus – Covid-19.
IMPORTANT: our prophet (Saw) forbade us from cursing these viruses, infact when these outbreak occur people should reflect and strive to become a good muslim, if you get infected be patient and as this will wipe away your sins; the following narrations tells us this:
The Prophet (saw) forbade the cursing of fever by saying: “do not curse a fever because it abolishes sins like fire abolishes dirt from iron.”
We as Muslims are very fortunate as we do wudhu regularly throughout the day which means we wash our hands, arms, faces and foot regularly to stay clean, washing your hands is the first step in preventing infections and viruses spreading. What a blessing from Allah (swt) that he gave us Wudhu as a act of worship.
One of the things that our prophet (saw) said in dealing with epidemics is: if there is outbreak of a Plague in a land (such as a viruses), do not enter it and if you are in the land do not leave it. This narration are found in all major hadith books. Therefore quarantine is important part of Islamic medicine, we need to take responsibility, if you fall ill with what ever virus to stay at home and not to spread the illness.
Our Prophet (saw) also gave us a simple remedy which we can use alongside medicine: the narration is: fever is coal from hell, get rid of it by using cold water; drinking plenty of fluids and wetting a towel with cold water and placing on the forehead is a simple and excellent method to reduce fevers and used over the centuries.
